monday.com

The monday.com steps connect your workflows to your monday.com boards.

Use them to start a workflow when an item's status changes, create or update items, look up board data for your documents, and post generated documents to an item.

Use Trigger to start from a board event, Write item to save data, Find items to read it, or Add update to post a message with documents.

Example

A law firm manages new matters on a monday.com board. The workflow:

  1. Starts with the monday.com trigger when the Status of an item changes to Engagement approved.
  2. Generates an engagement letter with a Document step, using the item's columns.
  3. Uses a monday.com - Add update step to add an update with the letter attached, so the team sees it right away.

Connect your account

  1. Add a monday.com step and click Sign in under Account.
  2. Click Continue to monday.com and approve the requested permissions.
  3. You return to the workflow editor with the account selected.

If TemplateDocs is not installed on your monday.com account yet, monday.com asks to install it first. This usually requires a monday.com account admin.

Trigger

The monday.com trigger starts a workflow when something happens on a board.

  • Account and Board - The account and the board to listen to.
  • Start when - One of:
    • Item created - An item is added to the board.
    • Column changed - The value of the selected Column changes.
    • Status changed - The selected Status column changes. Use Changed to to start only for one label, or keep Any label.
    • Item moved - An item is moved to the selected Group, or to Any group.

The trigger only listens while the workflow is published. Each event starts one run with the item's latest values. To try the workflow before publishing, click Test in the workflow editor and pick an item.

  • Group - The group new items are created in. The default is the Top group.
  • Column values - Every supported column of the board is listed. Enter a value, a variable (type @) or a formula. The item name is required when creating. When updating, empty columns are left unchanged.

A few columns expect a format, shown under the field:

  • Status - Pick a label from the list.
  • Dropdown - One or more labels, separated by commas.
  • People - One or more people, by name or user ID, separated by commas.
  • Phone - The number and the country code, for example +12025550169 US.

Find items

Finds the items on a board that match your conditions.

  • Account and Board - Where to search.
  • Conditions - Choose All conditions or Any condition, then click Add condition. With no conditions, every item matches.
  • Sorting - Click Add sort to order the results.
  • Maximum items - Up to 1000 items. The default is 100.
  • When more items match - Fail the step, or Return the first matching items.

If nothing matches, the step succeeds with an empty list.
