On Demand Trigger

The On demand trigger starts a workflow when a member of your organization clicks Start in the app. There is no form to fill in and no data to send.

Use it for tasks you run from time to time, by hand. For example, sending a fixed report, generating a standard document pack, or pushing the same request to another system.

Example

An accounting firm sends a standard client onboarding pack every time it signs a new client. The workflow has an On demand trigger, two Document steps that generate the engagement letter and the checklist, and an Email step that sends both to the office manager. When a new client signs, the manager clicks Start and the pack arrives in their inbox.

Adding the Trigger

When you create a workflow, select On demand as the trigger type in the workflow designer.

The trigger has no settings. The steps run with the values you configure in the workflow itself, such as fixed text, formulas and built-in values like the current date.

Starting a Run

Click Start in the workflow designer, or on the workflows page. A confirmation dialog opens. Click Start again to start the run.

You can follow the run in the run history.

How It Works

  • Only members of your organization can start the workflow. It has no public link or URL.
  • Each click starts one run.

Output

The On demand trigger does not create any variables. Later steps can use variables from other steps, such as Set Variables or an HTTP request, or any of the predefined system variables, including Run Started By (the member's name and email), Run Number, and Run Start Date & Time.

Credits

Each run started by this trigger costs 1 credit. The first 3 credits after the trigger are included in every run. See Credits.
